Portsmouth City Council Library Service and The Hayling Island Bookshop

Portsmouth City Council Library Service has nine libraries and a mobile library. We loan books, talking books, dvds, cds and language packs. We also offer a range of services including classes, reading groups, book events, children's rhymetime and storytime, eresources, Braille services, support to schools and book deliveries to the housebound. The Central Library is home to the Portsmouth History Centre.

The Hayling Island Bookshop is one of the last remaining independent bookshops in the area and has gained a reputation for the quality of personal service and their innovative author signing events. Authors they have run or supported events for include Sir David Attenborough, Terry Pratchett, Jacqueline Wilson, Anne Widdecombe, Chris Ryan, Darren Shan, Charlie Higson, Anthony Horowitz, Louis de Bernieres, Sir Andrew Motion, Alan Titchmarsh, Claire Tomalin, Sir Patrick Moore and many more.
